The name's Jean Carlos Dominguez, but you can call me Doodles. I'm 18. I had a pretty sweet neck beard once. Mike Kinsella (Cap'n Jazz; American Football; Owen) is my hero. I don't care for bacon very much. The Spanish-American War is my least favorite war for very personal reasons.

I like this because it sums up the predicament faced by anyone who creates anything.

It’s hard to move with a cloud above your head.
It’s a father, it’s friends, it’s my equilibrium.
It’s a ghost.

OWLS - Everyone Is My Friend [live, 2001]
It was a warm summer day in Orange County, California; a band from Chicago called OWLS were set to perform at a small venue nestled in the modest Santa Ana town. “What should we all expect?” We all liked the sweet songs that American Football had put out, and probably had grown to like a handful of Joan of Arc songs. “Was this going to be the same?” I don’t know how I heard about OWLS; I do remember the buzz that was created, since they were lightly dubbed “the new Cap’n Jazz” locally. “The new Cap’n Jazz? Does this mean that they would sound the same, only about six years older?” I wasn’t too familiar with Cap’n Jazz’s sound at the time, but I did hear one song that sounded like any midwest punk band in the mid-nineties: very fast and very whiny.
OWLS took the stage and this is what was heard. A few seconds into the first number, people began to giggle. It was the type of amusement that would cause one to wonder if they were laughing at them or with them—they were all laughing at them. The thin singer—with eyes closed—began to spaz around the stage with a single tambourine in hand. His trajectory was unknown even to him, and there were a few instances where he almost danced his way off the edge of the stage and into the small crowd. His voice cracked and squealed—maybe puberty hit late for this mid-to-late twenties Jean-Pierre Léaud look-a-like? I think the band actually won the crowd over—mostly people who were expecting them to sound like Cap’n Jazz. I can’t help but wonder if this same scenario occurred in 1998 when Joan of Arc played their first show in Long Beach at the PCH Club. People definitely showed up expecting Cap’n Jazz, but were otherwise treated to experimental pop tunes featuring computer-generated noises and detuned guitars. To me, OWLS were a catastrophe waiting to happen. The music was too good for anyone to really think they would last. They all had their personal battles, which resulted in their break up two years later. For that night in Orange County, the OWLS put aside their struggles and performed in a way that would best be described as controlled chaos. Two weeks later, 9/11 happened.

Snowing | Why Am I Not Going Underwater?
Sometimes I get drunk at night, when one drink turns fast into five, and then I start thinking of how many different ways my driving can take my life.
And I’m all alone when I’m not alone, and what’s worse is I kind of like that.
on repeat all day
